This privacy policy describes how Bavosymens.com (hereinafter "we", "us" or "Bavosymens") collects, uses and protects personal data of visitors and users. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG) and Belgian legislation.

Bavosymens.com is managed by Bavo Symens, data science consultant, based in Brecht, Flanders, Belgium. Contact: info@bavosymens.com or via the contact form on this site. No Data Protection Officer (DPO) has been appointed.

Data Collected

We collect:

  • Basic data via contact forms: name, email, phone, message content (for follow-up requests).

  • Technical data: IP address, browser info, visited pages (via cookies and analytics).

  • Google Ads data: tracking for ads and conversions (anonymous where possible).
    No sensitive data such as health info or financial data.

Purposes and Legal Bases

  • Responding to contact requests: legitimate interest (customer service).​

  • Website optimization: consent (cookie banner).

  • Marketing/remarketing via Google Ads: consent or legitimate interest.

  • Statistics: anonymized analytics.
    Data is never sold to third parties.

Sharing with Third Parties

Data may be shared with:

  • Google (for Ads, Analytics, forms).

  • Hosting provider (Squarespace).

  • Email services (e.g. Gmail).
    Always within the EU or with appropriate safeguards (such as EU-US Privacy Shield).

Retention Periods

  • Contact forms: max. 2 years after last contact, unless longer needed for ongoing projects.

  • Analytics: 26 months (Google standard).

  • Cookies: session or up to 1 year.
    Then deletion or anonymization.

Your cookie choice via the banner applies. Functional cookies are always active; analytical/marketing require consent. You can manage cookies via browser settings. Google Ads uses remarketing cookies – details in Google's policy.​

You have the right to: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability. Send a request to [info@bavosymens.com]. We respond within 1 month. File a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (https://www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).[1]​

Security

Data is secured with HTTPS, passwords and access controls. Squarespace complies with ISO 27001. In case of a data breach, we report within 72 hours to the authority if necessary.

Plug-in Battery Analysis

When you request the free battery analysis, we collect your first name, last name, email address, EAN code and type of energy contract. After you approve the data mandate with Fluvius (via itsme), we retrieve the quarter-hourly offtake and injection data of your connection for the past 12 months.

Purpose and legal basis: calculating your personal savings report and emailing it to you. This is based on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing info@bavosymens.com or by ending the mandate in Mijn Fluvius.

Where the data goes: it is processed and stored on Microsoft Azure (Azure Databricks, West Europe region) and the report is sent through Microsoft 365. Fluvius supplies the metering data. We do not share your data with battery manufacturers, suppliers or other third parties.

Retention: your request, metering data and report are deleted no later than 2 years after your last request, or sooner if you ask. If you place an order, order and invoice data are kept for as long as Belgian tax and accounting law requires.
